why ask?
most of what we see on social media, on television and in newspapers is polarizing, sensational and biased. not to mention somewhere between inaccurate, incomplete and intentional disinformation.
it’s not always important to get every perspective on an issue but it’s vital to understand the facts before drawing your own conclusions. if all you’re getting is propaganda and prepackaged conclusions, there’s no room for you to think or ask questions.
i don’t expect you to believe me or trust me. i don’t think you should take anything on the internet on trust. but i hope this will be a starting point to ask the right questions and go looking for answers.
doubt everything and don’t make your mind up until you’ve got answers to all your questions and perhaps we can stop jumping to conclusions, being more divided and fighting everyone over everything.
very few people are purely good or evil and i’ve certainly never met any of either. let’s try to explore nuance and depth together.
yes, i’m biased.
we all are.
it’s a necessary part of being humans. there’s nothing we can do to stop being biased but we can, if we want to, identify our preconceptions and viewpoints so we are aware of them.
i think it’s important for everyone creating online (or offline) content to be upfront about their biases. people consuming our content should be aware where we’re coming from and what we believe. without knowing the background, it’s easy to get confused. it’s also much easier for people to get swayed by propaganda if they don’t realize that’s what they’re seeing.
so i want to be clear about my basic viewpoints. whether you agree with me on them or not, you’re still welcome to see anything i create and i’m not going to argue the merits of my positions with anyone. for example, if you’re expecting conservative perspectives, you’re definitely in the wrong place.
thanks!
as a teacher, i know how difficult it is to keep you attention so i want to express my gratitude for your eyes and ears and mind. there would be absolutely no point in creating any content if you weren’t here to experience it.
